La Mallorquina

While looking for some good pastries in the city of Madrid, we were recommended what is probably Madrid’s most famous pastry shop: “La Mallorquina” in the center of the city. The facade of the pastry shop can be seen from afar as the café has a bright pink logo and pink awnings. Inside, however, the café has a much simpler and more tasteful interior design than the colorful logo outside suggests.

The tiled floor, the wood-clad counter and the glass display cases in which the various pastries are shown are the typical furnishings of a Spanish bar and immediately radiate cosiness. The pastry shop “La Mallorquina” offers all kinds of pastries: cookies, croissants, cakes as well as the popular “Napolitanas” – the Madrid version of a chocolate croissant, but not that dry and more generously filled with chocolate cream. The Napolitanas are available with chocolate or vanilla cream filling. It doesn’t really matter which one your order as they are both incredibly delicious but do make sure to visit this bakery early as they regularly sell out in the afternoons.
