Palacio de Bellas Artes
Thursday, October 5
Probably the most famous and iconic building in all of Mexico City is the “Palacio de Bellas Artes” = “Palace of Fine Arts” which is located in the historic center of the city. The yellow-orange glowing domes of the otherwise rather classical building are particularly unusual and therefore stand out.
The Italian architect Adamo Boari was commissioned to build the palace in 1904. However, due to various complications, the Palacio de Bellas Artes was not completed until 1934 under the direction of the Mexican architect Federico Ernesto Mariscal Piña. The building is now considered one of the city's most important cultural institutions. There are several stages in the palace where theater performances, dance performances and concerts take place regularly.
But even if you don't attend any of the events there, the outside of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the building itself, is an impressive sight in Mexico City and an important central meeting point in the city so if you are in Mexico City: Check it out!
