Siete Sopas ​

Peru is internationally known for its good cuisine. In Lima there are countless great restaurants serving typical Peruvian food. However, one category of dishes is almost never represented in the restaurants: the various soups and stews that Peruvian families often have at home. A few years ago, the “Siete Sopas” restaurant opened and it became a huge success.

A restaurant that, as the name suggests, serves seven different soups daily. The concept was so successful that several branches of the “Siete Sopas” restaurants have now opened in the city. The English term “soup” does not quite do justice to the restaurant's offerings, however. Peruvian “sopas” are not runny starter soups, but usually hearty, filling stews made from meat, rice or pasta and potatoes and seasoned differently depending on the type of soup. While in Lima I really wanted to visit “Siete Sopas” to eat my favorite stew, ”Caldo de Gallina”. Caldo de Gallina is a typical dish of Peruvian cuisine and consists of potatoes, pasta, chicken and broth. The essential part of this dish, however, are the various toppings that are served with it. Fresh limes, a hard-boiled egg, finely chopped spring onions, hot red chili sauce and salty, crispy fried Peruvian corn, which is called ”canchita”. At “Siete Sopas” all of the toppings are nicely served in small bowls alongside the stew. Together, this creates a wonderful flavor composition! Christoph and I will definitely come back to “Siete Sopas” to try the other 6 soups as well.
