Los Altramuces

Our Airbnb hosts in Granada were kind enough to send us a list of their favorite bars in town shortly after we arrived. Our hosts particularly recommended the bar “Los Altramuces”, as this place apparently offers the best tapas in the whole city.
Conveniently, Los Altramuces bar was just a few streets away from our apartment and quickly became one of our favorite tapas spots in the city. Especially during the hot summer in Granada, it was nice to stroll to the bar after work and order an cold drink. Our Airbnb hosts were definitely right about the tapas: with every drink that we ordered, no matter if it was a glass of wine or a coke, a plate full of sandwiches, almonds, chips and olives was brought to our table. In the region of Andalusia the tapas that come with the drinks you order are not charged for, but already included in the price of the drinks. At “Los Altramuces” the portion sizes of tapas they serve are especially generous and after a few drinks there you usually no longer need dinner! If you are truly hungry you can also order larger portions of Tapas and other dishes from the bars food menu but keep in mind that you do need to pay extra for that if you order something from the food menu.
During our time in Granada we visited so many great bars/restaurants that there simply wasn’t enough time for me to draw all of the locations in my sketchbook. So below you’ll find a list of our favorite bars/restaurants in Granada.
“Casa de Vinos La Brujidera” – If you are looking for a unique wine bar in Granada, you should not miss the “Casa de Vinos La Brujidera”. They not only have a huge selection of wines that changes weekly, but also soft drinks and delicious tapas. Our favorite thing of the night however, was a dish that we ordered extra from the menu. The red wine braised beef cheeks were one of the best dishes we had eaten in our entire lives. In our opinion, this dish alone is worth visiting Granada!
“La Sitarilla” – Another bar/restaurant that is very unique is the bar “La Sitarilla” in the center of Granada. The restaurant opens at 8 p.m. and is now so popular that a long line forms in front of the door just before it opens. The reason: La Sitarilla bar serves amazing homemade food. It’s that kind of comfort food that simply makes you happy. The menu includes traditional dishes from Granada and a variety of stews and hearty meat dishes. Of course, every drink you order comes with a plate of tapas. While other bars often serve sandwiches, olives or chips as tapas, at Sitarella Bar you get a plate of stew with fries. In fact the food at “La Sitarella” is so good that not even the horribly decorated interior of this place keeps me from going there!
“El Minotaur Tapas” – The Minotauro Bar is located in the Arab quarter of the city and is a bit hard to find as it is located in one of the many small side streets. However it’s worth going there, as they have really good tapas there. The menu also includes incredibly delicious ham and sheeps and goats cheese from Spain which you should definitely try while you are in Granada.
