Arco de Santa Catalina

The most famous place in Antigua, Guatemala is the bright yellow arch in the center of the city. The arch is officially called “Arco de Santa Catalina” and was built in the 17th century.

If you google "Antigua, Guatemala", you will find many photos taken from this very street, showing Antigua's yellow arch. For me, there is no photo that captures the special atmosphere of this city better. The cobblestone street, the one-story colorful houses, the yellow arch and of course in the background, the mighty big volcano that you can always see from the city.

For me, Antigua is an impressive and very special place because of the many volcanoes, the small streets, the many churches and monasteries and the tropical plants that grow everywhere. Walking through the streets of Antigua sometimes makes you feel like you are in a fairy tale and somehow it feels completely different from other Latin American cities. We will definitely come back here one day!
