Antigua Casa
Sunday, November 26

After having spent two amazing months in Mexico, we moved on to the next country on our trip: Guatemala. There we rented an apartment in the beautiful city of Antigua and spent several weeks there. As always we worked from home in our remote jobs during the week and on the weekend we explored the city and took trips to the surrounding area.
The city of Antigua is located in the south of Guatemala and has around 35,000 inhabitants. Different to the previous months, we decided not to live in the country's capital (Guatemala City) in Guatemala, but moved to the city of Antigua, 30 km away, which was much smaller, safer and nicer than Guatemala City.
The apartment we rented there up to this day is still one of the nicest apartments we have ever stayed in. Due to the consistently spring-like weather in Antigua, Guatemala, many houses there have a patio that is open at the top and brings a lot of light and sun into the house. Our apartment also had a small inner courtyard with a garden. The courtyard was in the center of the apartment. So to get from the kitchen to the bedroom or living room, you had to walk through the garden. The weather was sunny and warm throughout our time in Antigua, so it was really nice to have the garden and courtyard integrated into the living concept. The open courtyard brought so much light into the rooms of the apartment. But we particularly liked the lovely garden, which was full of tropical plants, huge leaves and colorful flowers. The chair in the corner of the courtyard was the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee and relax.
A few days later, we decided that one chair in the garden was not enough and we rearranged some of the furniture in the apartment. We ended up moving the colorful deck chair that you see in my drawing to the living room, and instead brought the dining table and chairs from the living room to the courtyard. Since it didn't rain in Antigua in December, this wasn't a problem at night either. I also discovered that there was a socket on the wall and the WiFi worked in the garden too, so I started working from the garden. From then on, we used the courtyard and garden day and night, for work, lunch and dinner, and enjoyed the for us Germans unusually warm and sunny weather in December!
